After that I was working on a collaboration with the art duo, Mr Four Fingers, for their first solo exhibition WHAT LIES BENEATH. The show is currently running for 1 month at Haggerston Espresso Rooms in Trendy Bastard central, Dalston. It’s a mixture of art, graphic prints and fashion, also seeing a collaboration with the Bag and shoe designer Elizabeth Dunn.

In Her Glory’s collaboration was a free standing wax and bone crucifix, ‘Stolen Prayers’. Using recycled prayer candles and bones that we extracted from owl pellets (vomit in other words, major stinkdom), we illuminated the cross from within, thus creating abstract silhouettes of the bones that were encapsulated in the wax.

The boys also asked me to make one of my floral wall pieces for the show. I’ve recently started to create illuminated floral pieces so it was a great chance to showcase the new designs.  so I put their favourite 4 letter word in lights…BOOM.

The show runs until the 3rd of May for anyone who missed the big opening and is yet to make it down. So get in uniform, dust off your creepers & tie dye t-shirts and head down for a coffee and peruse the art! It’s quite good.

It’s been a rough start to 2013. My 7 month old kitty cat, Clarence recently got attacked and tragically has now lost an eye ball. I’m heart broken.

Thankfully he is on the mend (sans eye) and doesn’t seem phased at all…but that might just be all the kitty morphine. His only annoyance seems to be the huge cone he has to wear while his face heals.

Now this is where shit gets cray cray. Clarence was named after Christian Slater in my all time favorite film True Romance. Who, if you haven’t seen the film (sort your life out BTW), nearly dies of a bullet to the head. But luck (or Tarantino) would have it, Clarence survives with only one injury… HE LOSES HIS FUCKING EYE.

Now that shit, is fucked.

Although I must admit, I never have been an avid football fan. When I lived at home I never followed the local team, Carlisle United, or went to any of the matches. I only know who the owner of the Club is because of a good old juicy sex scandal that was hot gossip for a while.

Shameful I know. In my defense I did have far more important things to be doing with my time, such as fake tanning, straightening my hair with an iron (an actual iron, my hair does not live to tell the tale… seriously, what a dick), spin drinking Smirnoff ice and finally smoking Lambert and Butler behind Aldi (to name one of the more polite activities).

These were all very important life experiences that played a huge part in my personal development, without which I might never have flourished into the polite and graceful woman that I am today.

So I kind of missed the whole football thing (I’m also partly blaming my dad for this, who hates football and would much rather go to a Lily Allen concert where he can pogo in a mosh pit and give himself shin splints. No comment).

To my surprise, I was thrilled when I was recently commissioned to knit a CUFC cushion. Full of hometown pride, I unearthed my bonkers CD (Hixxy & Sharkey mix of course),  lacquered on the Rimmel, dusted off my glow sticks and set up the knitting machine.

And here it is!

Note that is NOT fake tan on the edge of the photo. It’s a jazzy filter. Just to be clear.

Although I probably still would never go and see Carlisle United play (live or on telly), I was extremely proud to be ‘making‘ one for the team.

It would appear I’m not the only person having a love affair with 4 letter words.

Rugby based artist Andy Willett makes illuminated marquee letters and signs to order. The wonders of the 4 letter word are endless, and so it seems, are the talents of this man.

I commissioned Andy to make these illuminated LOVE letters. Now in place, the sign takes centre stage right above my studio door casting its ethereal light across the warehouse and unbelievably, managing to demand more attention than myself!

It’s wonderful to find such a talented craftsman who stands for the values of the handmade.

We live in  a culture where mass-production erases the value of a product, leaving little thought for the actual work, time and passion that goes into making it. So few people know how to ‘make’ that they have no appreciation for the real value of what they are buying.

It’s nice to find an artist making a stand (and a living!) against our consumer culture, bringing the artisan back and hopefully the value and importance of craftsmanship.

In Andy’s words ‘It’s the little errors and idiosyncrasies that make handmade work so unique and personal.’

I also built In Her Glory on this basis, I want to offer people the chance to be involved in the ‘making process’ of what they are ordering and in doing so hopefully making each cushion personal and unique… a story for every customer (gayness).

Nothings better than commissioning something to be made just for you or someone you love. It’s unique, and to me, shows a level of thought and care that shop bought things will never posses.

Okay rant over, I’m thrilled to own such a beautiful piece of work and hopefully this teeny tiny piece of waffle on my weeny winy blog will support and encourage other artists just like Andy and myself.
